All or Nothing Fitness supports IIFYM in all of its nutrition and training plans. Let us explain!
IIFYM, otherwise known as – If It Fits Your Macros – is a flexible dietary lifestyle that encourages you to eat the foods you love, as long as you meet your macro and micronutrient needs at the end of the day. We will set your macros for you in the plan of your choice, and then it’s up to you to enjoy this new freedom in food! And we know. you. will.
So, what are macro and micronutrients?
There are three macronutrients: protein, carbohydrates, and fat. These nutrients provide our bodies with necessary calories and energy, and are vital for growth, metabolism, and other normal body functions. By definition, “macros” means large, so think of these as the MAIN source of your daily diet.
Micronutrients are dietary components – think vitamins and minerals – which are required in small quantities to ensure development, disease prevention, and overall physical well-being. Again, since “micro” means small, these are little things we add to our diet to make it whole.
All AON plans include a custom macronutrient breakdown designed with YOUR body and goals in mind.
So, what does that look like?
It’s as simple (and effective) as this:This is a sample macronutrient breakdown for a smaller woman trying to lose her last few pounds of body fat. It calls for 1701 calories/day. She needs to eat 102 grams of protein, 204 grams of carbohydrates, and 53 grams of fat to lose .5-1 pound of fat a week (because that’s a healthy and manageable goal for her). If she chooses to eat oatmeal and egg whites and plain chicken and brown rice and all of those foods that fit into a typical “bro science” diet, she will make progress. If she chooses to eat an english muffin with egg and cheese for breakfast, a turkey sandwich with baked chips for lunch, and homemade pizza for dinner, tracks her numbers and hits her macros at the end of the day, she will STILL make progress.
Yes, this is all true. You can talk to any of us about it. We all practice IIFYM, and we all love it.
Now, with that being said, while we support IIFYM, we also highly encourage you to eat as healthfully as you can the MAJORITY of the time. Sure, a little treat now and then (if it fits your macros!) is completely fine, and probably good for your sanity. But, don’t forget the wonderful nutritional benefits in fresh fruits, leafy green vegetables, low fat dairy, and whole grain breads and cereals. These foods will make you feel better, fuller, and provide you with a more enjoyable overall dieting experience. We guarantee it!
